no it does not

You actually don't need 6-8 glasses of water a day … that's an urban legend. You need about a liter of water a day, minimum (about three glasses). You can drink more if you want, but a liter is plenty for your kidneys, unless you are sweating a lot in hot weather.

Gatorade counts as water for purposes of avoiding dehydration, but it does contain sugar and other stuff, so it's a bit like soda pop.

First, it's an old myth that you "have to drink 6-8 eight-oz glasses of water a day" (see below**).

Also, the water your body does need can come from wet foods, or from any kind of liquid. Gatorade and other flavored drinks would count as water but also include lots of sugar, sodium, and other things that aren't very healthy... they do add a few vitamins and minerals to the flavored water but you could easily get those (without the added sugar, etc) in other foods.

. . that guideline probably originated from a misunderstanding in the first place:
"In 1945 the Food and Nutrition Board, now part of the National Academy of Sciences's Institute of Medicine, suggested that a person consume one milliliter of water (about one fifth of a teaspoon) for each calorie of food. The math is pretty simple: A daily diet of around 1,900 calories would dictate the consumption of 1,900 milliliters of water, an amount remarkably close to 64 ounces.
But many dieticians and other people failed to notice a critical point: namely, that much of the daily need for water could be met by the water content found in food.. . ."

Any beverage that you drink that isn't water counts for only half the daily recommended amount. For example, if you drink 8 ounces of water and 8 ounces of Gatorade, you have had 12 ounces towards the recommended amount of water.

no. but try flavored water or flavored sparklers(bubbly flavored water) they are a good alternative.

no. it still has sugar and artificial ingredients. stick with plain old water or unsweetened tea.
