Question about carbonated drinks ?!

When i was younger , anytime i would get sick (such as vomiting , or upset stomach) my parents would always take a drink like Dr. Pepper or Coke & they would heat it up in the microwave a little . & It would always stop me from vomiting & get rid of my stomach ache . How does that work ? Why does heating carbonated drinks help with that type of sickness ?
