In theory you can die from drinking too much water, but this means gallons per hour, not simply a lot of drinking during the day.

Extremely high consumption of water—in excess of what the kidneys can remove (and they can remove a lot of water)—can cause hyponatremia, a potentially fatal condition that affects the nervous system and can cause swelling of the brain. Some cases of people who were mentally ill and consumed huge amounts of water over short periods are known. It can also occur when someone has been engaged in strenuous exercise for many hours and has been sweating for a long time: his electrolytes are depleted, and if he drinks a vast amount of water in a short time without eating or replacing the electrolytes, he can develop hyponatremia. Drinking too much water in this way is called water intoxication. Because of the amount of drinking required to produce it, it is very rare.

Dehydration is a much more common problem than water intoxication.

yes, you can drink too much water, its called water poisoning, where you are drinking water too fast for your kidneys to process it, its also very hard on your kidney, you can get a kidney infection... sometimes if you drink a lot, your lungs can also fill with water, and technically you drowned. I think they say 64oz in a day is normal, so you would have to drink a lot, a lot of water to have too much

Yes, very possible. You can drink too much. I have a condition where if I drink more than a 32 oz bottle, I get dizzy and stomach pains, migrain and I pass out. I get really dizzy.

You can drink too much where the electrolytes in your body are not working because you have too much water in your system, do NOT overdo the water.

If you drink too much water all at once then it can spill over from your stomach into your lungs and you will die from drowning or pneumonia.

If you drink too much water then you can upset your electrolyte balance in your body and it can cause your kidneys to fail.

Drink water - no more than 8 x 8 ounces a day.

Water absorption

It’s funny how we can do things or think the things we are doing are effective, when in fact, there are better, far more efficient ways to accomplish our goals.

When I would awaken in the morning I would attempt to drink about two glasses of water to start the day. I did this because I felt it would help me get one-quarter of the water I needed right from the get-go.

I learned more recently that is very inefficient and does little more than cause more frequent bathroom breaks. The body does not absorb all of this water at one time, hence, frequent trips to the bathroom. I’ve learned that drinking water 4 ounces at a time, or sipping 4 ounces about every half hour helps the body utilize the fluid more efficiently, resulting in fewer bathroom breaks. This advice came from researcher Nan Kathyrn Fuchs.

Vitamin D absorption

It turns out vitamin D may be far more effective if taken along with the largest meal of the day. Researchers at the Cleveland Clinic examined 17 patients with vitamin D deficiency who were being given a vitamin D supplement. When their levels hadn’t increased over months, the patients were instructed to take the vitamin along with their major meal of the day. Voilla! When their levels of vitamin D were measured they were 56 percent higher among those taking the vitamin along with the food. Alternative physicians implore patients to take vitamin D3 for the best oral absorption.

The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) suggests that older adults need more vitamin D to support, bone, muscle and lower limbs. (Mood is also affected by low levels of vitamin D). The recommended dosage should be serum levels of between 800 to 1,000 IUs per day and may be increased to 2,000 IUs per day in patients who are obese, have osteoporosis, are institutionalized or have limited sun exposure.

Immune booster

We all wonder how we can boost our immune system. One method is so simple you may not even believe it but it’s true. Caloric restriction! That’s it. Eat less. Scientists funded by the Agricultural Research Service found that volunteers following a restricted diet enhanced their immune systems. They also lost weight. The researchers conducted intricate testing among the volunteers and found significant increases in immune function merely from caloric restriction.

The researchers also examined the effects of caloric restriction on function of T-cells, a type of fighter white blood cell that protects us from disease. T-cell proliferation was increased among those who cut 10 percent of their intake of food. Please note, all bets are off among those who have existing eating disorders. None of this applies to people with eating disorders.

Hopefully, these very recent findings that require little effort, will help make life better. So, sip your water or drink it four ounces at a time, take your vitamin D with your major meals and eat a little less to attain better health.

You can, but it is really difficult.

The people I have heard of who have died from water over dose were being hazed or in a water drinking contest. (they were drinking a couple of gallons in a few minutes)

I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes, you can basically drown your internal organs and die from it but it would take a lot of it in a short amount of time. I get really sick from drinking 2 pitchers of water one day in a short time period, I threw up for hours.

water is very good for your health. if you love water than it's very good to you. in a day you have to drink at least 3-4 liter for losing your weight ' if you can drink more than it than it can be good for you.

Water is really good for your health but drinking more than you need is bad i used to drink alot of water and that made me go to the toilet so much every hour i go twice then i realized i was drinking too much water .

Not that I know of. But do you drink a lot of water simply because you just really love it, like you stated, or because you're always thirsty? Because excessive thirst can be a sign of diabetes...

Yes, large quantities of water (ex. 3-4 gallons) consumed all at once without urination, and especially during exercise can be fatal.

People who say 'no' need to get their facts checked.

3-4 litres a day is fine if you want to lose weight. Don't overdo. Anything in excess is harmful.
