You boil the water in something else and then pour this boiled water in you teapot. It's recommended that you preheat the pot with more hot water. Most tea bags are steeped for 5 or 6 minutes and then removed, so that the tea does not become too bitter. Depending on the size of your teapot, likely only one bag is required, depending on how you like it.



Putting anything made of glass or porcelain over a gas flame would most likely shatter it. Boil the water in a pot and pour the boiling water over the teabags (or just over the leaves if you enjoy loose leaf tea). Enjoy :)
