What happens if you put hot tea in a steel water bottle for cold drinks only?!

Question: What happens if you put hot tea in a steel water bottle for cold drinks only?
My mom bought me a Subzero Stainless Steel water bottle not knowing it was only for cold drinks. I don't want to make her return it but i want to use it for hot tea. What will happen If I use it for tea. I don't want to try it before knowing what will happen because I don't want to ruin it. Thank you!

It will cool off quickly, but not before getting so hot you can't hold it.

If you screw the top down, you could cause a buildup of pressure that could warp the bottle or the cap.

If there's a seal around the cap or an integrated straw, the heat will ruin the them.

It most likely says it is for cold drinks only because 1)it is single layer and putting hot liquid you will likely burn yourself picking it up 2)the top maybe plastic or some other heat sensitive material.

I've used stainless bottles that have said for cold drinks only, but it's not that convenient. The heat will not hurt the metal, but it may hurt your hands. Proceed with caution!

Been there, done that.

Some stainless steel water bottles actually have a plastic lining. Minute cancerous chemicals would leach out and heat excelerates this process. I would only use it for cold drinks.. Anyways stainless steel is a heat conductor so your drink will cool off quickly. Buy something designed for hot drinks they are cheap and you will be happier.

Stainless steel will conduct that heat right to the palm of your hand, leaving some severe discomfort behind.

added to the other answers, steel expands when hot, so you may not get a good seal on the bottle, also causing burns

Depends on how hot the tea is?
