is there anything wrong with drinking 3 gallons of water a day?!

Question: Is there anything wrong with drinking 3 gallons of water a day?
i vary anywhere from 2.5-3.5 gallons of water a day (i know because i use a 5 gallon water jug)
one 5 gallon jug lasts me like one and a half to 2 days
my dad says he dont know anybody that drinks ANYWHERE close to that amount daily
i dont force down the water or anything like that
i was always overweight as a kid and was told to drink alot of water before, during, and after meals to fill the stomach up without all the extra calories that food has
im at a GOOD weight now and i just drink water NATURALLY now and thats like 3 gallons a day?
Are there any health risks to this?

Answers:

That's quite an excessive amount of water... Not recommended, although the adult human body can usually process up to 4 gallons a day without negative side effects... If you haven't had any problems so far, then you're probably okay. I wouldn't actually call it healthy, though... Check out the source site for more info.

yes, far too much water can lead to water intoxication posioning and in rare cases even death

Yes.

Kind of.

Excessive water intake can lead to electrolyte imbalance-obviously you have not had these problems so far but you are wise to want to know for sure.
You don't give any indication of how large a person you are-the recommendation is 1/2 oz/pound/day. If you are a 250 lb man the amount you drink might be fine, especially if you work out or work in the heat and sweat a lot. Be sure to consume enough sodium, as that is the factor that usually causes a problem.
You do drink a LOT of water compared to most people, but you have to remember that statistics show that ~80% of people are chronically dehydrated. I drink usually over a gallon of water a day and I am very healthy. It may be you want to try measuring your intake and output (yes, measure your urine) for a day just to be sure they are approximately even. That would rule out renal problems. Or discuss the issue with a doctor if you're really concerned. Excessive drinking and urination are classic symptoms of diabetes but almost always go hand in hand with other, more troublesome symptoms. Good luck to you.

Health authorities have historically suggested at least eight glasses, eight fluid ounces each (168 ml), of water per day (64 fluid ounces, or 1.89 liters), and the British Dietetic Association recommends 1.8 liters. The United States Environmental Protection Agency in risk assessment calculations assumes that the average American adult ingests 2.0 litres per day
The amount of water varies with the individual, as it depends on the condition of the subject, the amount of physical exercise, and on the environmental temperature and humidity

1 gallon is equal to 4 litr approx and what you are drinking is 3times more then the average requirement which is wrong even if we consider the climate and the exercises you do.
People can drink far more water than necessary while exercising, however, putting them at risk of water intoxication (hyperhydration), which can be fatal. You are also putting a risk of kidney failure.
