how did people brew coffee before percolators or coffeemakers?!

Question: How did people brew coffee before percolators or coffeemakers?
I know it's been around a while.

Answers:

one of the oldest ways to brew coffee is the turkish method. the beans are ground into a fine powder and mixed with water and/or milk and heated over a low flame. the powder sinks to the bottom and the liquid on top is poured off into the cup.

The cowboys would just throw some ground beans in a kettle of boiling water, then be careful when pouring it not to get too many grounds in their cup.
