Coffee addiction, why is it so addictive?!

Question: Coffee addiction, why is it so addictive?
I use to not be a coffee drinker, but recently I've been craving it more and more and I'm trying to understand why.

Answers:

Even though common wisdom states "caffeine is addictive", the medical field is still debating it.

Yes caffeine can cause headaches when you stop ingesting it, but that's because it constricts blood vessels. Once you stop drinking coffee, the blood vessels begin to dilate and cause headaches until everything returns to normal (usually less than a week).

Most people don't get enough sleep and rely on caffeine to function. If you've been getting less sleep lately, that may be why you're craving coffee. Once you get enough sleep (take Excedrin for any headaches - it has caffeine too) you should be able to function without coffee. If you're craving the taste (I love coffee's flavor) but want to avoid caffeine, quality decaf is just as delicious.

I roast my own beans and have seven ways to brew coffee.

Caffeine is highly addictive.

It alters the brain's natural state, and stimulates it in a manner similar to the amphetamines cocaine and heroin.

im not sure, my educated guess would be that it affects our heart rate and metabolism by increasing them, so i guess when you dont drink coffee your metabolism would be slower and you would feel a craving for it so you have more energy and youd feel more upbeat?

Nothing "makes" the caffeine addictive because the caffeine itself is addictive. It's addictive simply because of its chemical formula.

Caffeine.
