You're fine as long as you don't have gestational diabetes- that is, diabetes that only affects you during pregnancy. Check with your OB to make sure you don't have it before you start guzzling soft drinks, as those are especially harmful to the regulation of your blood sugar.
Even if you don't have gestational diabetes, if you want to have a healthy baby it's better to stick to healthy options. It's only nine months for you, but it could make a big difference in the health of your baby.
Hope this helps!
One of my parents is a specialist Ob/Gyn. It's all I ever hear about at the dinner table.
There is no actual recommended amount of soft drinks a pregnant women can drink. However, regular soft drinks are loaded with calories, no nutritional value and can cause excessive weight gain. In addition many soft drinks contain caffeine, which is a substance that women who are pregnant should use sparingly if at all. As far as diet soft drinks, artificial sweeteners have been proven safe, by the FDA, for pregnant women. However, you should not let diet soft drinks take the place of more nutritional beverages and they should be used in moderation.
Whether the soft drink is regular or diet they are both "empty" of any nutritional value! Make what you eat during pregnancy count toward your increased nutritional needs. The best suggestion is to avoid soft drinks for the most part and stick with healthier beverages including 100% juice, water, and milk.
Yes, but I would limit it to one can (12oz) and not every day. It is the caffiene in the soda that can be harmful in large quantities. You don't want your baby hopped up on caffiene and fake sugar!
Sure. A soda a day isn't going to harm the baby.
