Salts are added to all kinds of food to enhance flavor. Of the other common soda ingredients, it's probably the least of your worries (HFCS, artificial flavors and colors, etc.)

It's best to just not drink the stuff at all...

I think you need to check your facts. Every soda on the market is a low sodium food. While they do have sodium, and ingredients that have the word "sodium" in the name - the total amount of sodium is extremely small.

For example, a 12 ounce can of Cola contains only 15 mg of sodium.
a 12 ounce can of lemon-lime soda (like sprite) contains only 37 mg of sodium

For comparison, the recommended amount of sodium intake for a healthy person is 2200 mg - and most Americans consume close to double that.

So you would need to consume at least 15 cans of cola to consume just 1/10th the recommended amount of sodium per day.

So - your question assumes there is a lot of sodium in sodas - and that just isn't true.

Soda does not have a log of sodium, but they put it in to help make it taste better. Some juice and water had sodium in it as well. I have heard that it is so that it makes you stay thirsty even after drinking their product so you may buy another one.

they add salt to products to enhance the flavor
