Nothing's wrong with drinking that much water... There are certain limits people should try to maintain, but you don't massively exceed them or anything... From the sounds of things, I don't gather that you're drinking between your meals, so it sounds like you're drinking slightly above the recommended 8 cups of water. You should be absolutely fine if you keep up as you are!
Hope I help! ^^

It is bad for digestion to drink during a meal, however after or apart from one you can drink as much as you want! The issue is that while eating, you're producing more "stomach acid" in order to digest the food, and the water dilutes it (makes it less concentrated, and so makes you digest slower/worse). However, at any other time it is encourages to drink large amounts of liquid.
But, of course, keep in mind the advice given above about drinking too much in general.

My opinion is that you probably are drinking too much water. It is highly reccomended that we drink eight standard glasses of water a day. It is actually possible to drown yourself by drinking too much water so perhaps keep this in mind. Slowly, day by day, drink less and less water but do not let yourself become dehydrated.
Hope I helped. Good luck!

Drinking a lot during meals is said to be bad for the digestion, because it dilutes the stomach acids. If you're drinking 1 or 2 super-huge cups, that's too much.

Drinking too much overall is said to tax the kidneys. But there are differing views on how much is too much.

unless something is constantly used to eliminate moisture content in your environment (this may affect your saliva glands and cause other bodily fluids to be secreted/ejected) this amount is considered healthy and more is no problem provided you're having food too.

Try drinking like 8 actual cups of water a day instead of huge ones.
The only bad thing I have heard about drinking too much water would be that you could get water intoxication.

i dont think so
i used to drink 2 gallons a day, i was super healthy and end losing 20 lb
as long you do not retained you should be fine

its good, but being thirsty all the time is not, but keep drinking water until you check with a doctor

Excess thirst could be a sign of diabetes (or an number of other issues.) Check with your doctor.

No, its actually good for you. Helps prevent kidney disease. Its the best thirst quencher.

There is such a thing as water toxicity. Also, such a constant thirst might indicate a problem with your blood sugar, which could lead to diabetes. I strongly suggest you get your blood sugar checked.

from Dr. Benkim: Water intoxication (also known as hyper-hydration or water poisoning) is a potentially fatal disturbance in brain functions that results when the normal balance of electrolytes in the body is pushed outside of safe limits by over-consumption of water.

If you force large amounts of water into your system over a short period of time, your kidneys will struggle to eliminate enough water from your system to keep the overall amount at a safe level.

As your blood circulatory system becomes diluted with excess water, the concentration of electrolytes in your blood will drop, relative to the concentration of electrolytes in your cells. In an effort to maintain an equal balance of electrolytes between your blood and your cells, water will seep into your cells from your blood, causing your cells to swell.

If this swelling occurs in your brain, the bones that make up your skull hardly budge.
The result is an increase in intracranial pressure i.e. your brain gets squeezed.

Depending on how much water your drink in a short period of time, you could experience a wide variety of symptoms, ranging from a mild headache to impaired breathing. And as occurred recently in the tragic water-drinking contest, it is quite possible to die if you drink enough water in a short enough period of time.

Bottom line: your mother is probably right.
