The thing of milk making you sleepy comes directly from the mind! The placebo effect made believe by someone you really trust ( Moms doing it to their little sons) thus making it possible but, milk indeed contains a chemical known as tryptophan which IF TAKEN ALONE ( supplements with high amounts of it in every pill) can magnify the serotonin ( Good feeling chemical) and Melatonin (Sleep inducing Hormone) levels in the body. BUT, the levels of tryptophan in milk are not that high to produce the sleepy effect and thats why it doesn't make you sleepy. Actually,to have its full effect on sleepiness, you would have to drink gallon and a half of milk to produce the actual amount in a Tryptophan Supplement Pill which is less likely.

Milk needs seratonin to work on; try tryptophan/ turkey with it.
