How do I make my own coffee from coffee beans?!

Question: How do I make my own coffee from coffee beans?
I've always liked strong coffee and love the look of the bags of coffee beans you see in starbucks etc.. but what do you actually do with these? Am i right in thinking you have to first get a grinder, grind them then put them in one of those perculators to squash them down and filter them out....?

Answers:

You have a few choices here depending on what you buy and what you want. First, you need to figure out if you're buying coffee beans or espresso beans. If you're buying coffee beans you can just grind it into a fine powder and use it like regular coffee in a coffee maker. If you don't want to buy a grinder, just put the beans in a plastic bag and whack them into a bunch of pieces with a rolling pin, then put them in a coffee maker. No coffee maker? Put them in a coffee filter, suspended over a mug or pitcher and pour boiling water over them.

If they're espresso beans, you should invest in a coffee grinder and an espresso machine or you won't get what you're looking for. Grind them into a powder and then follow the directions on the espresso machine. Unused beans should be stored in the refrigerator to maximize their life span.

You need to grind them first, so that its a nice powder. Then either you have a nice (expensive) espresso machine italian style, or you can make it with a moka cup (they are not so expensive and they ast forever). The easiest way, is to put some powder in a mug(how much depends on how strong you want it, the more you put the stronger it will be) add boiling water and stir, then either filter it with a small strainer in to another mug, or just drink it like that, Indonesia style :)
