I was in a cafe and got jug of water on the table and wondered why this happened?!

Question: I was in a cafe and got jug of water on the table and wondered why this happened?
Well in the jug of water was a slice of lemon and a slice of lime. The lime slice sank but the lemon one floated. I wonder why this happened?

Honest this is how the jug was given to us at the table. So weird when I saw it. I thought they would both float. Why not?

You are observant! Yes, the lime slice will sink while the lemon slice stays afloat. A lime is much denser than a lemon (because of this, If you've ever tried to get juice from a lemon and then from a lime, you will find that It's much easier to get juice from the lemon). I think the rind plays a part in this as well. The rind of the lemon has the ability to hold more air pockets than the rind of the lime. If you have both a lemon slice and a lime slice exactly the same size and place them both in water, the the lemon slice will float. The lime slice, being a denser fruit that holds less oxygen will start to sink.
