If you are talking about ESE pods these are designed to be used in regular Espresso machines - usually with a bit of a modification. These make making espresso a little easier but are not as good as using freshly ground coffee. Nespresso pods make acceptable but not great coffee and require specially designed machines and tie you into buying the special pods which are only available from Nestle. Any of the other pods are a complete waste of time and make truly putrid coffee.

Summary
No Pod is a good as freshly ground coffee brewed in an espresso machine. ESE or Nespresso pods are easier to use and require less experience than ground coffee and make acceptable coffee. The rest are garbage - Senseo and Dolce Gusto being popular examples of very bad coffee.

Whether you prefer to grind your own beans or purchase pre ground coffee, you are sure to find coffee maker machines that will get the job done for you and brew you a perfect cup of coffee every time.
