Which is worse for you: coffee or soda?!


Question: Which is worse for you: coffee or soda?
I know they both contain different things, but it seems like there is quite a difference between the two. So which one is physically better/worse for you, and why??

There were rumors that sodas like mountain dew and vault contained an obscene amount of caffeine. Far more than a cup of coffee. This is really just not true. In about 8 ounces of coffee there is 4 times as much caffeine as 12 ounces of mountain dew. So as far as caffeine content goes, coffee definitely has more. Caffeine itself is basically a drug in the stimulant category and it has its health risks like raising your cortisol (stress hormone) level which can lead to high blood pressure and heart problems, even weight gain. And of course the "buzz" can cause insomnia and that has its own list of health problems too.

Soda, on the other hand has far far more sugars than coffee. The syrup that is used to make all kinds of sodas is based off of a heavy amount of corn syrup, a product of concentrating the starches of the corn plant down into simple sugars, and a hell of a lot of sugar per ounce as well. Approximately four grams of sugar per ounce of soda. To put that in perspective, a 20 ounce bottle of soda contains the equivalent of 18 - 20 of those sugar packets you get at restaurants. Too much sugar in your diet can lead to type 2 diabetes, weight gain, heart problems, high cholesterol, tooth decay, and has even been suggested to cause depression or mood swings.

So coffee has a lot of caffeine, which can cause a lot of problems if overdone and soda has a lot of sugar that can cause a lot of problems if overdone. Which is worse? Neither are that bad in moderation so just don't over do it. Try to have less than one soda or coffee per day and don't drink highly caffeinated drinks after 2-4pm.

Soda is much worse. If it's regular soda, it contains huge amounts of sugar. If it's diet soda, it contains artificial sweeteners. If you're drinking cola, it contains phosphoric acid.which has been linked to lower bone density. The carbonation irritates the stomach. The stomach "cures" the irritation the only way it knows how. It adds the only antacid at its disposal: calcium. It gets this from the blood. The blood, now low on calcium, replenishes its supply from the bones. If it did not do this, muscular and brain function would be severely impaired.


Coffee contains antioxidants that help prevent cancer and heart disease. Studies indicate that regular coffee drinkers are up to 80% less likely to develop Parkinson’s disease.Drinking two cups daily could reduce the risk of colon cancer by 25% and halve the risk of gallstones. Emerging evidence suggests that coffee may help manage asthma, stop a headache, boost mood, and even prevent cavities. Decaf coffee has been found to provide the same stimulative effect as regular coffee, without the caffeine.

I vote "soda", which often contains (in the U.S.) High Fructose Corn Syrup and phosporic acid. The HFCR, with the caffeine, messes up your blood sugar; and the acid erodes your teeth. Coffee (unless defaf) still has the caffeine, but can be black, and is supposed to have enzymes which are good 4 U.



Coffee, in moderation, has a variety of potential health benefits. Diet soda offers no health benefits, regular soda is just bad. So soda would be worse.

coffee is not bad for you, its what you put into it that can be bad...
