Can drinking diet soda, i.e. diet ginger ale, diet coke, etc, actually make you gain weight? I have noticed?!

Question: Can drinking diet soda, i.e. diet ginger ale, diet coke, etc, actually make you gain weight? I have noticed?
that I have gained weight the last few years. I'm not blaming it solely on drinking diet soda, as I need to cut back on fatty foods, alcohol, etc, but I think i've definitely noticed that drinking diet soda certainly hasn't helped with the cause. Part of me thinks it has actually made me worse and made it harder for me to lose weight. Any thoughts?

Answers:

Yes, they may not have sugar, but they still have the artificial sweetners, salt, and other chemical products that make you gain weight.

Some people metabolize aspartame the same as sugar, so for some, it may not make a difference. It also may make you crave other things. There are a lot of articles about this in online peer reviewed journals.

it's possible. there's still debate over it, but some say that it increases your appetite for carbs and some say it changes the way you process normal sugars.

A Diet Coke only has just a few calories, so I guess no.

Yes.
