nope. just slick marketing. there are 7 different types of beverages: coffee, tea, espresso, cappuccino, latte, crema coffee and hot chocolate with some subtypes (eg - iced coffee, etc.). various name brands and some generics seem to be the current choice(s). they are each served in single sized, bar coded, sealed packages called T DISCS, and the bar code on each lets the machine configure itself for a specific beverage. pretty clever, even without the robotic dance moves. i'm interested, even if costs close to the $169 on the website. it will be good for home on the counter and travel in our motorhome.
simple cost examples:
-- maxwell house coffee 16 individual servings for about $6 online, with lattes higher at $7 for 16. add shipping, maybe reduced cost if locally obtained (add tax). 37.5 cents for a coffee and about 44 cents for premium lattes, etc. - even flavored. not bad.
-- gevalia, a premium brand is $9 and $10 for the same 16 singles in various flavors/types.
-- many other brands available at various price points.
a big advantage is the individual packets (T DISCS) are sealed for freshness. great for rv's.
have some fun.

tassimo website and various bing sourced websites like maxwell house, gevalia.
It's a pretty misleading ad. When I first saw it I thought "Wow! This must be produced by the same guys who did Assimo!" That's a REAL helper robot from Japan. I thought this brewbot must be a first step toward a fully automated robot that does more than just make coffee.
But no, the tassimo brewbot is just another coffee machine. How someone in their right mind in the tassimo marketing department decided to add the word "bot" to the product and then market it with a commercial that strongly implies it IS a robot is beyond me...Everyone I've talked to about the ad thought it was supposed to be a robot coffee machine at first!! haha
The Tassimo guys are gonna have a lot of disappointed customers who take their coffee pot home and it doesn't start transforming and dancing around :)
The tassimo website. It has the price listed as $150. That's when I knew it was too good to be true. A robot like that would have been something you would have seen at Sharper Image and cost at least 1000 bucks!
PS: While the commercial is very well animated and makes it look real at first glance, if you look again you will see the button on the coffee pot turn into a kind of "claw". That's what gives it away as animated
The Japanese of some real robots that make coffee!

I would buy it if it did transform just to watch it make me coffee. I don't drink coffee so there would be a lot of coffee cups lying around.
i have looked all over the place for this answer as well....no luck...good luck in your search
