coffee and your period?!

Question: Coffee and your period?
I just have a simple question. is it ok to drink a small cup of coffee decaf or not while on your period. I don't want to bloat or get a serious stomach pain. I'm just scared of that. I drink penty of water so I won't dehydrate.

- the main problem with coffee is that it is a diuretic - it will make you go to the toilet (urinate) more frequently
- caffeine in the coffee contains a large amount of adrenaline - this acts against the parasympathetic nervous system, therefore it acts against good digestion, this might cause bloating a little.
- coffee also irritates the stomach lining

My advice: Have the cup of coffee (only have one, no more) - but also have some yoghurt or something that will make your stomach feel better.

Caffeine is a mild diuretic, so it will actually ease water retention. If you're drinking lots of water, you will cancel that out. There are two kinds of bloating. Intestinal bloating and water retention.

If you are having cramps, caffeine may make them worse, especially if you are having intestinal bloating. But caffeine can also ease intestinal bloating due to mild constipation.

Caffeine is a mild gastric irritant, so it may bother your stomach.

If you normally drink caffeine, not drinking caffeine today will put you into caffeine withdrawal, which will be worse than any possible negative effect it will have.

The bottom line: try it.

Full-caf coffee makes me feel better, actually. The caffeine is a diuretic (reduces water retention) and analgesic (reduces pain), especially in combination with another pain medicine.

I have a few times.
