Energy Drink/Caffiene Addiction Problem?!

Question: Energy Drink/Caffiene Addiction Problem?
Well hello guys, my name is Drew. Ever since I was a kid, I have been drinking Dr. Pepper, coca cola, stuff like that. Well, maybe 3 years ago or so I found energy drinks. I have loved them ever since. I had gotten so badly addicted to caffeine that at the first instance of a caffeine headache, I would pop some Excedrin migraine pills (contains caffeine) and drink a coke. I remember one time I got this energy drink named Wired X. It was an orange can and it says on it that it contains 505 mg of caffeine, so i decided to drink the whole thing and that didn't go so well, i got super jittery, it wasn't a comfortable caffeine buzz at all.

Anyways, I have just pretty much figured out that it is very hard for me to give up on caffeine. I know that energy drinks, soda's, and other drinks are pretty bad for my health. I have tried quitting, It's just really hard. I definitely don't think I'm going to let myself smoke a cigarette now, that wouldn't end so well. When I drink caffeine I have much more energy, and I feel so happy. My viewpoint of the world changes. Instead of looking at all the negative things in life, when I have a Monster in my hand I can see the positive things in the world, and I realize that compared to the positives, the negatives are so small. If i'm in my room by myself I will sometimes drink a monster and just dance away to techno music. I suck at dancing.

How can I stop my addiction? Is there any mindset I need to have? I get headaches, really tired, no motivation at all, and depressed when I stop drinking caffeine =( Help me I'm a suffering addict.

Try and ratchet down your intake. For instance, if you normally drink 5 monsters a day, take it down to four monsters a day for a week. The next week take it down to 3 a day etc. That way your body can adjust to having less caffeine and then you can slowly ween yourself off of it. In addition you should start exercising more because that releases feel-good endorphins into the body and this can help you stay positive and give you more energy. Eventually you won't need caffeine at all!

This is how I quit smoking after 12 years. I haven't smoked in a year and a half and have no regrets or cravings.

Is caffeine a thorn in your side? Are you starting to feel like you just can't live without it? Well, you can! Caffeine is a drug, and like any drug, in order to free yourself from addiction, you have to be committed to your plan of action, and be ready for the pain and frustration of withdrawal. The key to quitting is the knowledge that things will get worse before they get better. But, once they get better, they will *stay* better.

Best of luck to you.
