Tap water at my new apartment tastes foul compared to other tap waters?!
Even after I put it through my water filter I still can't stand the taste. I have tried tap waters from about 6 different places that I have lived recently and they all tasted about the same and were all bearable after I put them through my brita. I also had to clean out my filter with soap because the taste residue of the water from my new place was so strong it was affecting the taste of other water.
So I asked my building manager about this and they said they 0would call a plumber. However when I inquired about what they found out they were very unresponsive and basically brushed me off. They told me a number of things to try to disuade me.
They said the person who lived there before me never said anything. I said maybe that person didn't drink a lot of water. Then they told me it's the location and that when they are in other towns or cities it tastes different. I then said all the previous places I tasted tap water were in this city and one of the places was just down the road.
I have researched online that it might be because of the pipeing. Its an old buidling.
Im wondering if I get the pipes replaced in just my apartment would it solve the problem OR would they have to change the pipeing in the entire buidling OR would they have to do something about the water supply?
My rent is fairly expensive and I would not have moved in if this was going to be an issue.
Any advice is much appreciated.

The taste of tap water does vary based on the source and what treatment is used at that source, even if you moved from just down the road.
I have lived in several counties as well as different cities within a metro area. Two of the places had the most horrible tasting tap water ever even though they were next to places with good tasting tap water. Unless you have it tested and it is found unsafe, there isn't much you can force management to do.
In one of the places I lived, I cannot tell if the faucet filter made it taste better or worse but regardless it still was no good. If you are going to take matters into your own hands, I'd recommend getting a filter installed that filters the water as it comes into you unit. Hopefully this will be enough to improve the taste.
Replacing pipes and buying that type of filter is an expensive option and you'd have to leave your upgrade behind for the next tenant.
I think you should either buy bottled water or sign up for one of those services that will bring the bottles to you. It would be a cheaper and less stressful option.
Contact public health in your area and have the water analyzed for minerals, etc.
all tap water tastes foul so i suggest fixing the pipes and getting a water filter too
