How much water should one consume in a day?!
Answers:
Look, there's so much rubbish talked about this... Let me set you straight.
About 10 years ago, the UN did a study into how much water, on average, people in lots of different countries all over the world consumed (INCLUDING the water in the food they ate, people!).
The research came back showing that people consumed a total of about 2 litres a day, on average.
That's it. Many doctors and nutritionists said that this seemed like a decent sort of amount, (whilst also admitting that they didn't really know for sure).
The reason the '8 glasses' thing is so famous, is in large part thanks to the bottled water companies, who of course like to remind us to buy their products at every opportunity.
So, of course drinking water is good for you, as it keeps your skin looking good and your body healthy. And also I think you should drink more when you're ill, or if you smoke or do other drugs, etc, as it helps to clear the system.
But don't get stuck on this 8 cups thing, as firstly it includes food anyway, and secondly I don't think it's very helpful to think that way- use thirst as your primary guide (that's what it's for), and you won't go far wrong.
Ideally, one should consume at least 6 glasses of water a day. This does not take into account the water contained in foods or other drinks.
Liquids will hydrate your cells, but water also helps with cleansing and detoxifying the liver and other organs. Besides, other drinks that contain water, such as coffee, may have a diuretic effect.
Yes they actually mean to drink 8 glasses - not including the food you eat.
And even more if you are doing something strenuous like working out, working in the sun, sweating alot, etc.
When I worked construction I would drink more like 1-2 gallons a day.
You should be fine drinking 1 liter of water each day ( in addition to what you take in during normal eating ) , more during hot weather or strenuous activity....1 liter equals about 4 eight-ounce glasses.
8 cups of water per day
