Can coffee really stunt your growth (make you stop growing)?!

Question:

Can coffee really stunt your growth (make you stop growing)?

Lots of people have told me that and I want to know cause I'm 13 and I like drinking coffee but I don't want to stop growing

Answers:
No, it can't really stunt your growth. But it has no significant nutrients and therefore is not a healthy food, so don't substitute it for water, milk or other healthy drinks.

It is not good in large quantities--for you or for adults, either. It stimulates the heart too much and can cause temporary heart arrhythmia and palpitations, dilated pupils, breathlessness, bad breath and sleeplessness, stained teeth, etc.

It is a diuretic and can cause you to lose too much water volume too quickly, leading to dehydration. And in a smaller child, that happens more quickly, because of their smaller body size and weight/height.

You are 13, so the danger isn't as great for you as for a small child. And, if drunk in moderation, it's probably ok now and then.

Adults probably told you that tale of stunting your growth because of all the above stuff and because they don't want you to get hooked on the caffeine in coffee, which can be habit forming---- both physically and psychologically. They probably are just trying to keep you heathy and safe.

Don't overdo it and you should be fine. Talk to the people who tell you this tale, tell them you know about the dangers of too much caffeine and that you just drink coffee every once in awhile.

Maybe they'll come around to your point of view.

No, since it stays in your body for a short time!

I've been drinking coffee since i was 13 and im 6'7'', no complaints

No, that is a urban myth!

Coffee is a stimulant so, it would make you growth faster!

No way.

I believe it really can! It's all about choices though!

If drinking coffee makes you stop growing, there would be a lot of very short people.

No that is purely an old wives tale.

I've been drinking coffee for a looooong time, and if it stunted a person's growth, I'd be about three and a half feet tall.

no it's not true I'm 27 and I'm 5'4 and i had coffee in my bottle when i was younger so no you can drink your coffee dear lol you'll still grow

Well, you can relax.

Neither Coffee nor Cafeine will stunt your growth.

This is an old wive's tale akin to Mom's telling me that if I masturbated, I'd go blind. There's a world of other such homilies out there that should be de-bunked.

Enjoy your coffee and don't worry.

YES It Can When I Was little I Drunk It All The Time And Before I Drunk It I Was Tall Then Like Later On I Was Shorter!!!!

nah i drink it 24/7 were i live its like 3 in the morning haven tgone to bed yet

there is no peer reviewed medical study that would support the claim that coffee or caffeine stunts growth in the human skeletal system...

all i am going to say is im 12, 5"7,and love coffee.id say it helps.
but then tea is good too...try tea with creamer (hot tea...duh...) if you need a substitute for coffee

Yeah it can and it also makes your teeth yellow. I had to stop because my teeth were getting like that and it took me about a year to whiten them back.

caffeine migfht hinders nutrients absorption...

at 13, you need lots of nutrients and nutritional food to allow growth .... therefore, you should stick to healthy stuff.. esp protein and carbohydrates and this age...

however... the amount of coffee should not hinder any growrh...
since you are only drinking coffee, and not caffeine...

No- My 12 year old loves coffee, and I let her drink it. If that were true, we'd have a lot of short people.
