I believe when the U.S. was a British colony, tea was popular, thus, the "Tea Revolt" and Boston Harbor...
I love tea myself and prefer it to coffee. It's healthier.

Because the U.S. started out as a British colony, tea was the preferred drink. But it was also more widely imported since most trade was also with England.
Coffee didnt really get popular until the 1800s when more trade routes with the West Indies opened up.
