Coffe Decanter Question?!
Coffe Decanter Question?
Is there any health reason as to why you aren't supposed to use a decanter that has been boiled empty? The burner got left on overnight and of course the decanter was empty this morning. I just want to know the specific reason it tells you not to reuse it. THANKS!
Answers:
it weakens the temper on the glass making it more prone to breakage.
I can't think of a health reason, unless there is a bad residue in the pot. Make sure it's clean.
I can think of safety reasons, though. Any glass cooking utensil that has been left on the heat for too long develops weaknesses in the glass and especially in the connections between the glass and attatchments like handles. You might pick up a pot full of hot coffee and the handle would detach, spilling scalding hot coffee all over yourself and/or someone else. This happened in the 70's with Corningware coffee pots and resulted in a lawsuit and recall.
So I wouldn't use the pot, just to be safe.
the heat you are talking about is just enough to take the temper out of the glass and it has a very good chance to fail (Break). And then there is the legal disclaimers to deal with
