Is Starbucks a Soulless corporation?!
Is Starbucks a Soulless corporation?
The fact that Starbucks buying policies contribute directly to poverty in many places is what makes this particular company soulless.
Because they can buy up massive amounts of raw product they force the prices down for the coffee beans that many everyday farmers work to produce in sh*t conditions worldwide.
They say that they make a point of buying "Fair Trade" coffee, but it only amounts to 1% of their total buying.
They couldn't care less. They also use milk from cows which have had genetically modified hormones injected apparently... nice!

OIl machine in iraq, coffe machine in the world.
And from everything I've read they treat their employees better than most other places and make sure that they qualify for insurance and other benefits. So what do YOU do for a living and how well do you treat those you work with or who work under you?
In other words they are just like every other major corporation that operates in the world. Imagine if they paid market rates for coffee beans?? A cup would be $9.00 (wait, it already is!)
Corporation=Soulless But I do know what you are talking about concerning Starbucks. I do not go to Starbucks, even if they do treat their employees better than most.
Dude, Its owned by Dr. Evil.
What do you expect.
There no better than any other company unfortunately.
Beside,do we want to give more money to the third world. THey will do the same thing as we do and buy garbage to screw up the world even more. I don't drink coffee and hate starbucks.
They are a nice place, but overprice their products to much. They all so come up with some very vague drink names.
Thanks for saving the world one question at a time!!!!!!!
You must belong to one of those crazy, I hate corporate meat eating, vagan loving save the world as we hug a tree cults.....
What does the " C" in your name Faceless C stand for?
CAN I GUESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It isn't just about the poverty issue. On 9/11 they charged the firefighters for bottles of water. Of course they later apologised, but actions like this (in such a desperate time of need) speak louder than words.
Sadly, this isn't limited to Starbucks, there are plenty of other companies doing the same thing day in, day out. This is why I'm so conscious of what products I buy and from where. The only thing you can do is vote with your feet (and wallet).
They are soulless if only 1% of their total buying is Fair Trade coffee.
Drinking Fair Trade coffee should be a moral act!
Spending more money for Fair Trade means that you are drinking not just to make rich companies richer but to make the poor richer.
It extends the money full circle and makes the retailer realize you have this deep perception and that if you are going to drink the company’s coffee they have to lend farmers this same respect.
Your conscious buying power helps pursue for the common good of society and economic justice to those who need it most.
Starbucks is typical of the majority of mass-buyers.
Peoples don't care. If they did, they would keep away.
People may come into this forum and claim they care, but the revenues of these companies prove people don't care about other humans or animals.
People who buy unethical foods ( and other goods ) are DIRECTLY responsible for the conditions of other workers and the cruetly to animals inflicted on thier behalf. consumers have total power over what retailers do. Until people are honest with themselves about this, the world will remain crap.
2 of the above answers sum up peoples attitude nicely. They say if starbucks did the right thing coffee would be expensive.......they didn't say they was ok....oh well, i guess we can't expect any change soon,
I am sorry, but you are wrong.
-I work at Starbuck's and it is a great job. They treat us right and even though I work part time, I still get exceptional benefits that many fulltime employees can't get.
-The reason why our coffee is so high is because we pay our coffee farmers 74% than any and all other coffee corporations. Plus, we give back to the communities where they work to help build things such as schools and hospitals. So, when you drink your Folger's and go to your other coffee shops, just realize that they are not paying their coffee farmers like we do at Starbuck's
-That is a rumor about the milk from cows with hormones added. We use the same milk that you all use to drink with.
Sorry to say, but your website is absolute crap.
