Why does cherry coke not taste of cherrys but is still tasty?!

Question:

Why does cherry coke not taste of cherrys but is still tasty?

Answers:
danny k has it right:
grenadine, the most common "cherry" syrup flavorer, is made from pomegranate juice and so has a sweet and fruity, but distinctly not cherry, flavor.
pomegranates are the greatest things in the world, btw.
and cherry coke does NOT taste like dr. pepper.

it taste like dr pepper lol

good question!!!!~

it does taste like cherries!

I think it taste kinda cherrish

Probably because there aren't real cherries anywhere in it. Why doesn't grape juice taste like grapes? It just tastes like purple sugar to me.

Its probably full of e-numbers, mostly flavour enhancers that bring out a weak flavour.

because they dont want to drown out the taste with cherry they still want it to taste like coke

Because they get the cherry flavor from grenadine which comes from a pomegranate.

The artificial flavors they use aren't right.

dont like it and 2 points :)

it doesn't taste like Dr. Pepper..i hate it when people say that, or at a restaurant when they bring cherry cola instead of Dr. Pepper.

Thats a good question. But who thinks of questions like that?! weird....

most fruit drinks seldom taste like the fruit they claim it to be,as the taste is presumed by flavourings, unless they contain real fruit like my fave mango smoothie drink. ;-)

never thought of it till now...i am not keen on coke but love cherrry coke...odd one...

because of all the chemicals they put in it, just to make it taste soooooo good, and so that people can get addicted to it and by it all the time!!

I taste cherry in it. However, it is not made with real cherries...It's made with Cherry Juice Concentrate. The taste of the real cherries wouldn't be strong enough.

Tastes like cherry to me... no.. they dont use real cherries, but then again they arent using real coke either!!!
