Why did espresso hit me much worse than latte?!

Question:

Why did espresso hit me much worse than latte?

I drink latte all the time with no problem. Today I had an espresso. At first, there was no problem, but then I took one more sip (making it about an 8 oz drink, if that) and suddenly, it hit me like a ton of bricks (major adrenaline symptoms--heart was racing, I felt sick, dizzy, angry, etc.).

How can normal people drink this? And what is the big difference between the two? I thought I was gonna pass out. It was unreal.

Answers:
The difference between lattes and espresso:

Latte - half cup of coffee + half cup of milk
Espresso - concentrated coffee

Everyone reacts to caffeine differently. Caffeine can cause some individuals to have difficulty sleeping at night. It can also cause some people to have fitful sleep, mood changes, heartburn, stomach upsets, or headaches. People who have a high caffeine intake may experience headaches or withdrawl symptoms if they suddenly cease getting their normal amount of caffeine or have exceeded thier average intake.

More caffine.

Espresso is meant to be served in 2oz. to 4oz. portions, who ever served you 8oz. of espresso did not know what they were doing. The big differance in the two beverages is the latte is made with mostly steamed milk.

An espresso is a much stronger coffee then a latte, so you got a major hit of caffeine. I can't handle espresso's either so I stick to lattes, I can't even handle a capochino but I know heaps of people who drink it. Stick to lattes mate and you'll be fine.

Basically, a latte has one or two shots (usually, unless you ask for more) of espresso - the rest of the cup is filled with steamed milk. A shot being approximately 1.5 ounce each. If you drank an 8 oz straight espresso... that would be equivalent to having about five or six shots in your latte. I don't think they even have a NAME for 6 shots. I think they stop at "quad" (4). THAT's why. :D

The name itself will tell you. Espresso = express = Fedex. Not only meant to hit you worse but also faster then the rest.

IN RESPONSE TO THE ANSWER ABOVE ME STATING THAT SHE WOULD STOP AT A QUAD (4) BEACUSE THERE IS NO NAME FOR A 6 SHOT.....I MUST SAY WRONG!! I WORK AT STARBUCK'S, AND ANYTHING WITH 6 SHOTS IS CALLED A REVOLVER

its alot stronger than lattes, it has alot more caffeine and coffee gives you energy so thats why you felt like that.

Espresso is the basis of a latte, cappucino and most coffee drinks. But the coffee drinks are mitigated with milk or cream, either steamed (milk for a latte and cream for a cappucino) or not.

Eight ounces of espresso!!!! No wonder it hit you the way it did. It's generally serves in 2-3 oz cups.

The latte that you drink is a milky coffee, whereas espresso is just the coffee which is where all the strength is.
Obviously espresso is not for you.
