A gallon a day is alright. You only need 64 oz per day. Anything more than a gallon (unless you're doing a lot of sweating) should probably be avoided...it is possible to drink TOO much and really mess up your kidneys.

Recommended daily intake of water is at least 8 glasses, 8 oz. each. That's half a gallon. If you drink a gallon over the course of a day, that's probably good for you, actually, but you'll have to pee a lot. It's bad news to drink huge amounts of water in one sitting and then not pee, though, like you've seen in the news. But a gallon spread over the day is fine. I know in the summer if I'm in a triathlon or working outside I'll easily down a gallon in 8 hours.

wow, great question! yes, it's prefectly fine, and healthy, but you might not want to exceed that too much. My spanish teacher brings a gallon of water everday to class and drinks it. Throughout the day ofcourse, not in one time period. But he encourages us to drink a gallon or atleast alot of water too. He says that it keeps us from dehydrating, and keeps our brain working without falling asleep, and it helps you get concentrated. And since it was a foreign language, he says that our mouths won't get dried out if we have water. hahaha. and everyone brings their own gallon of water to school(highschool level) to finish it all in the 8 hours we have of school. yay, drink more water!
