How much water do you need to drink before you get water poisoning?!

Question:

How much water do you need to drink before you get water poisoning?

Answers:
it is not just the amount it is the time frame and every person is different

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/water_intox...
A person with two healthy kidneys can excrete about 900ml (0.24 gal)/hr[2]. Consuming as little as 1.8 litres of water (0.48 gal) in a single sitting may prove fatal for a person adhering to a low-sodium diet, or 3 litres (0.79 gallons) for a person on a normal diet. However, this must be modulated by potential water losses via other routes. For example, a person who is perspiring heavily may lose 1 L/hr (0.26 gal) of water through perspiration alone, thereby raising the threshold for water intoxication. The problem is further complicated by the amount of electrolytes lost in urine or sweat, which is variable within a range controlled by the body's regulatory mechanisms. Water intoxication can be prevented by consuming water that is isotonic with water losses, but the exact concentration of electrolytes required is difficult to determine and fluctuates over time, and the greater the time period involved, the smaller the disparity that may suffice to produce electrolyte imbalance and water intoxication.

thank you

1 gallon i would think

i know that if you drink over 6 litres in a day, it depletes your body's vitamins etc so upwards of that i guess.

It depends on the person's height and weight. But for most people it takes 1-1/2 gallons.

About two gallons in an hour will do the trick.

3 gallons but hey don't do it, things can't be that bad hon!

8 glass 16 oz each

It varies.

It can depend on things like medication and illicit drugs.

Also, haven't you ever heard of people on ecstasy at dance parties and drinking so much water (because they're hot, thirsty and think it's good for them) that it kills them?

Not sure but that women doing that radio station contest did die from to much water not sure how much she did drink though but she apparently drank alot

This is the correct answer: - There is no such thing as water poisoning.. It would have to contain a lot of bacteria in it to make you ill (contamination from food stuffs cooked in it). The average person requires up to two litres of water a day. One can damage the kidneys if one over does it, drinks too much. This is called internal drowning of the bodily functions. This can be dangerous!!
