How can I make great-tasting fresh perked coffee?

Help! My husband's parents are coming over tonight and he says my coffee is awful! Is there any advice for making great-tasting fresh perked coffee that won't incite my husband's horrible wrath?


Answers:
Avoid heating the coffee for too long. Coffee is best if not heated over 170 degrees F. Otherwise acids form which are (1) distasteful (2) bad for the teeth and (3) bad for the stomach.
Procure a large Pyrex(TM) measuring cup and a cooking thermometer.
Place the desired amount of water in the Pyrex cup for testing. Place the Pyrex cup of cold water in the microwave and run for various times. Quickly remove the Pyrex cup of now-heated water and measure the temperature. Find the correct cooking time to achieve 170 degrees F. but not higher.
Always use freshly ground coffee. It tastes much better. (This is the secret of all restaurant coffee.) You may grind your own coffee at the grocery.
Place a large coffee filter in a Pyrex measuring cup.
Place the desired amount of freshly-ground coffee in the coffee filter and the measuring cup. Add the previously measured amount of water for 170 degrees.
Heat the coffee and water in the microwave for the proper time for 170 degrees. The coffee may be steeped for 5 minutes to increase brewing.
Pour brewed coffee from Pyrex cup into a coffee-filter holder on top of a coffee cup.
Remove coffee grounds using the filter in the Pyrex cup and discard.

Go out and buy fresh coffee beans. Don't grind them until you make the coffee.

buy your own coffee beans at the store and grind them yourself, this will keep the coffee tasting and smelling fresh.

Always use the best coffee you can find. Smell is usually a good indicator of how it is going to taste. Add a little more coffee then the directions tell you to and use a french press.

Step one, get a coffee press. This is a simple device with a decanter and spring-operated micro filter. Put the coffee grounds (fresh ground are the best) in the decanter, add boiling water (rolling boil, not just hot), let stand for about five to ten seconds (or more depending on how strong you want the coffee). Then press down on the plunger to filter the grounds out of the water and trap them at the bottom of the decanter. Use about one tablespoon of coffee for every two cups you want to make.
Here is the real trick. Have a teapot of hot water available to thin out the coffee if it is too strong for anyone's taste. Add a little to make it more mild.

You might want to try this. sprinkle some cinnamon and nutmeg in the filter with the granulated coffe. Mix it up a little. Then add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the empty coffee pot and press the button to start brewing. After it's done brewing, stir the coffee to make sure the vanilla extract isn't sitting on the bottom. That's all there is to it...Everyone is always asking me where I buy my coffee from so that they can stock up. I don't keep it a secret so now all my friends make sure they stock up with cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract instead. lol!

Freshly roasted beans.
Mill grinder, not blade.
High quality coffee maker with cone filter, not flat on bottom.

Good God! DO NOT ADD VANILLA OR CINNAMON OR ANYTHING!

Freshly ground is great! If you don't have your own grinder, go to the grocery store and grind it there yourself. I use about 11 tablespoons of coffee for a 12 cup pot. It's not too strong but it's not weak either. If you have coffee syrups, great! Add the syrup to the cup, add some coffee, then shake up a carton of milk and add just a bit to your cup... it'll make it frothy and be just the right amount of cream. It's wonderful. It's kinda like a latte. And don't worry, if the coffee's awful anyway, don't take it so hard. Laugh at yourself if you have to. It's not the worst thing that can happen. It's just coffee. You could always go out to Starbucks or something.

That's easy Laura. Just buy some Folger's and mix in some anti-freeze. Your husband will die and you will be free to live a life of fast men and drugs.

Let me tell you, this is great, fresh-perked coffee.

My wife and I were in the kitchen and I told her how the women at work would always bring in excellent coffee while my wife's coffee tasted like feces. I told her that the only thing I wanted for my birthday was a decent cup of coffee and that her coffee was horrible. She told me, "That was harsh," but I let her know who wears the pants in this relationship by responding, "So is your coffee."
