How did regular coffee get its name..?
a regular is cream and sugar..how did this name come about..does all the regular folks take thier coffee regular..

Yeah. I want to know that too. I don't think that is true everywhere, but I learned what it meant in Philadelphia years ago when I ordered a cup of coffee, and said "Yes" when they said "regular?", because I thought that would mean "NOT Decaf". I drink my coffee black, so I didn't appreciate the sweet creamy stuff I got.
This is the way most people order there coffee,so it becomes regular.
Regular coffee was just that - regular, before folks started to do irregular things when making their coffee, starting with no sugar and/or no cream, to the endless permutations and types of coffee now available at Starbucks, Spinellis, etc.
I always thought of regular coffee as Caffeinated...that comes from years of commercials and eating at dinners: "Would you like regular or decaf coffee?"...ya know?
Regular coffee is just that, coffee. Has nothing to do with what you add to it. The alternative would be Decaf, again does not matter what you add to it.
Where I'm from 'regular' coffee means that it has caffeine. I always have to add my own cream and sugar.

I'm not really sure but I found this about some coffee facts that are quite interesting. People use to eat coffee beans.
All I know that here in Canada and some places in the States as well a double double is two cream and two sugar.
