Water bottles such as Evian say dont re-use bottles?!

Question:

Water bottles such as Evian say dont re-use bottles?

they say for hygienic reasons-but are they trying to make more money but sellng more bottles or can you really be ill by putting other water in it???

Answers:
No, you will be fine. Been doing it for years wih no issues. Legal reasons make them have to put that on their so if by chance there is an issue, they can not be sued.

i think you can, because the plastic may start going into the water

Money, we re-use them all the time, rip off anyway.

Its okay to reuse them. Just not to keep using the same one for a very very long time. Even though water dont make the cup dirty, little particles can get in there, your mouth touching it all the time..it will eventually need to be thrown out. Think of it as a cup, would you use a cup/glass for days at a time with out cleaning it?

normally we shouldnt use bottles again because the plastic does collect microbes and stuff but we all use the bottles again. i always refill them with water and use them for weeks. of course at some point we have to replace them but the truth is that i never got anything from the bottles!

Evian is correct to say this because the plastic can , after a period of time, cause toxins to pass into the drink. I'm sure it's okay to re-use a couple of times though.

I imagine its only to make you buy more bottles. I re-use mine and I'm still alive.

Of course. They want us to keep buying their bottles of water instead of re-filling with tap water.Mind you after a while,i dont think using the same bottle would be good hygiene either.

no, its just called "Making more business from customers" you can use the bottle again, they say that, but alot of people go out and buy another bottle - cause the stupid or they've got the money

no they just dont want you to re-use them so that you buy more of there products.. and for legal terms like the girl said below .. its not so that if you do its unhygenic or anything so dont worry about that lol we do it all the time .. hope that helps xx

I used a bottle at work for almost a year, refilling it from the water dispenser. I didn't get ill. I washed it regularly but it did get a bit manky. I treated myself to a new one in 2007 :)

If you'll notice on plastic containers, there is a number in a triangle. That number has something to do with how many times the plastic has been recycled. Different countries have laws about how many times they will allow a plastic recycled. It may be that the Evian bottles have reached their limit.

I think it's fine to reuse them for a few times from a health point of view. We do. But if we forget them and leave them in the car for a few days the water does taste of plastic. Maybe because tap water has chlorine etc added. They will of course get gradually dirty and they also don't sterilise well, heating them starts to distort the plastic, and I think milton or whatever may leach stuff out of the plastic.

I also wouldn't be surprised if there was an element of brand protection involved. They don't want anything else in bottles marked with their name.

Spell Evian backwards and you'll see what kind of people buy their water. Evian is the worst purified bottle water that I've ever tasted.

I don't believe you'll get sick from reusing their bottles, however they probably have to put that on their bottles in case people do something stupid like they always do. This protects Evian from litigation and provides arbitration advantage if they do get sued perhaps.

They put that notice on the bottles because most people will refill it over and over again without washing it. Being that water is clear you don't see the bacteria build-up and actual filth that can make you sick.

I use bottles over and over many times but I ALWAYS wash the bottle with soap and water after each use. Not many people do that. They get lazy and just rinse it out.

Look at it this way...if they reused their bottles, then we could be infected with human germs, and get sick...all the more reason to buy it!

They just want you to drink another bottle of water so they can make more money.

Hygiene is the reason.

Well it is ok to reuse the bottles

the ony thing that you are supposed to do is rinse them out before refilling them like 4 or 5 times

Well anyways you can reuse them all you want they say that so you buy more of their water and they get more money.

Also the only reason you have to rinse them out is that the plastic does eventually start to wear down

Economic reasons are why.
