Water problem?!

Question:

Water problem?

i just moved to Southampton and the tap water here smells really bad, and taste awful too. I tried buying an Asda water purifier, it seems a little better but i dunno if it's really healthier or not. Also i buy mineral water a few times but it's kinda heavy and not so economical (i'm a student and living in uni hall)... So any other solution?

Answers:
the water should be tested.. depending on the smell and such it could be heatlh concern.. and if your in a student hall there should be regs.. checking in on that..

you should be drinking safe water
if you can't get in touch with someone to fix the problem.. (as it should be up the university to suppy healthy drinking water).. i'd stick with bottled water

I would boil a kettle of water , keep it in a jug and just keep on refilling it when i have finished drinking it. Best way to get rid of germs etc.:)))

Get one of those Brita Pitchers. Put an extra month or so on them It won't hurt you.

Report it to your water company.

Look up the Yellow Pages to find out a firm that can fit a mains water filter to your cold tap. You will need to change the cartridge as often as recommended by the maker, but it will probably still turn out cheaper in the long run.

You can go to your local health department and they will give you a bottle to put the water in so they can test it and see if it's safe to drink. If it's not, it should be something that the university should take care of.

Firstly run the cold tap from where you get your drinking water and put your hand over the spout to see if you can stop the flow of water (you may wanna wear something old).

If you can completely stop the flow of water then you are not drinking mains water !!!!! You will most likely be drinking water from storage tanks above, usually in the roof space, which if left uncovered can get all kinds of nasty things in them - including dead pigeons etc etc.

You should never drink this type of stored water anyway as in can easily become stagnant.

If however you are unable to hold back the flow and get sprayed with cold wet water then you are indeed drinking from the mains and you should report the problem immediately to your water supplier or in your case the person in charge of your Uni halls as the supply could be contaminated.

Where have you moved from? Generally the higher up the country you go the better and softer the quality of water becomes.
