I HAD the same problem. Believe it or not it is NOT just the quality of the beans IT IS the coffee maker. For $99 on sale (sometimes less) get the Cuissanart Grind and Brew coffee maker. We discovered it a year ago and has it ever saved us money. You put the beans/water/filter in it, set timer and it starts before you get up, freshly grinding the beans and brewing. I am NOT KIDDING. The coffee (we have the one with a glass container) sits on that darn burner and even 3 hours later tastes fresh. Makes great ice coffee. We actually do not even use expensive beans. THE DARN THING IS GREAT. AND YOU GET TO WAKE UP TO FRESH COFFEE...

{__}?

Buy an espresso machine. Espresso is richer than plain coffee.

add dirt and make it generally suck... then think up fancy names... add lots of cream to get rid of the actual coffee flavor... and maybe serve it cold

buy starbucks brand beans, and grind them fresh before brewing. Then invite all your friends over and charge them 300 times what it costs to make it.

I just increase the amount of grounds I put in my basket.

put in a little coffee (the stuff they got to pay a lot of money for) and a load of milk (the stuff they get cheaply) and voila !!!!
Starbucks know how to make their money.

First start with good coffee. You can buy Starbucks at the grocery store. Next make sure your coffee pot is clean as well as your filter tray. Third try to use filtered water since tap water can add unwanted minerals that can change the taste. You should have a pretty decent cup of coffee after that.

I hear ya...I am a fan of dunkin doughnuts coffee, have done everything they have said to and it never tastes the same...ever, I don't think they WANT it to taste the same...if you can get it at home you won't go there anymore (even though they charge a fortune for the beans).....really, sorry, I just don't think it ever will...I am on my second cup of second rate coffee right now...!!! ahve a great day...just go to starbucks...treat yourself!!!

Virtually impossible unless you are willing to spend about $3,000 on a Commercial grade coffee make. Commercial coffee makers are designed to brew large quanties of coffee to exact speciification. There are also temperature variations, water purification, and the roasting of your coffee beans.

My advise, buy the highest quality coffee you can afford, brew it a strong as you like it, start with cold water, and keep you coffee pot clean. Otherwise shell out $4.00 for a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

It doesn't have to be Starbucks to be good. Newman's own or Green Mountain coffee (same beans) are quite good. Millstone's ok.
You can grind it at home (nice because you can add stuff like cinnamon or pieces of vanilla bean or nuts) but if you're lazy like I am you can grind it in the store, just set the grind to "fine".
Start with cold fresh water and use a rounded 1/8 cup measure for every 2 cups coffee on an automatic drip coffee machine pot.
I think the best coffee comes from using a french press but after breaking a couple, I don't go there.
Take your coffee off the heat right after it's brewed and put it in a thermal pitcher you've primed with really hot water and you'll have good fresh coffee for hours.

Two parts to making good coffee. First, you have to have good coffee or coffee beans if you choose to grind them yourself. Next you need a good coffee maker. And if there is one other part, follow directions and flavor it to suit your own taste. Some interesting coffee info on these sites.

Pour it into a cup with a label on it. I think the grand conspiracy is this: It is Folgers with cinnamon. $5.00 for 3 ounces, thank you! Next?

Go to Starbucks and get a package of there coffee beans. Then use those. I dont think that it will taste as good, but it will be close.

Make sure the coffee pot is clean, Vinegar and water run through the pot, then run water through it. Use a coffee bean and grind it before use, start with cold water. Use steamed milk, half milk and half coffee for cafe au lait.
