Does Iced Tea have the same health benefits as regular tea?!

Question:

Does Iced Tea have the same health benefits as regular tea?

I found some great "Green Tea to Go" at the grocery store- little packets that you just add to your water. Does this have the same anti-oxidant power ... of regular green tea?

Answers:
I can't speak for instant teas; I think part of the benefit comes from brewing and drinking it fresh.

I read a report recently that said that adding milk eliminates some of the health benefits of teas, but since you're not adding milk to iced tea, that wouldn't be a problem.

Short answer: I have no idea. Personally, would stick with fresh brewed.

yes it does and it taste better to

I don't think the temperature of the tea affects its benefits one way or another. As for brewed vs. instant, I like brewed better. Of course you can always brew some and put it in the fridge.

As long as those packets contain real tea, then the benefits should be the same.

Yes.

Put on your doubting spectacles and look at the ingredients.

More than likely, you're holding a miracle of flavorings, aromatics, sugar, sugar, sugar and a few thing to keep the stuff from clumping.

The amount of actual "green tea" will be very slight, and, at least in the Lipton offering, it is little more than a Kool-Aid for big kids.

The health benefits of green tea are real, but they are small, and rely on a good-quality, reasonably fresh leaf, picked, steamed, dried, packed and then made into a nice cup of fragrant yum.

Don't count on a little packet to make you healthy.

Best wishes!
