Why do tea bags float?!

Question:

Why do tea bags float?

Answers:
Because of density.
The water molecules (Hydrogen and oxygen) are more densely packed than the ones in the tea bag. Imagine if you had the tea on top some sand--since the sand is denser, the tea bag will stay on top. It's harder to imagine with water, but it's really the same concept. The other way around, if you put a penny in water it would drop since the copper is heavier.
Some people say they've never seen a teabag float. That's true. Some teas are made with different materials, and they may contain denser things than water. A nuttier tea will often drop while an herb based one will float.

If you liked this, I'd really appreciate a best answer (:

because.

coz its light

becuase they'er so light

Density of the tea leaves lighter than that of water

But i don't recall my tea bags floating.

same reason a leaf would float. Less dense than water.

Someone make a "tea bag" joke...please.

the tea bags and tea leaves are less dense than water, so they float.

you cant be serious?
i want to make a tea bag joke soooooooooooooo badly

because they are less dense than the water they are in

Well - dry tea floats, the paper bag material floats -so a teabag will float until the tea leaves get saturated and begin to sink.

beause there is a pocket of air or the plants in the bag arent completely dried and have oxygen inside the plant thus Tada it floats

displacement theory =)

It's a beavah, it shouldn't be saying anything!

maybe becuase its hot water

Because the water is more dense.

Because they can't swim:)

Tea bags float because there is air traped in teh leaves, and will take a while to escape. Eventually they will sink. Hope this helped. :)

They don't. They only float until they fill up with water, then they sink.

because they have nothing but loose tea in it.

because tea is light and they are full of air

the bag is not totaly full and it allows water to go into it and so it floats

It's simple,... there is air inside of the tea bag. The bags are porous enough to allow the water in, but not like a fish net would be. We're talking microscopic mesh,.. so for the air to escape takes a little longer than we like sometimes.
Take a spoon and sink that baby to the bottom and squish it a little,.. it'll take on some water a bit quicker that way and you can then start your up-and-down dunking.

they float because if the bag hase little air pockets

there is air in the bag....

Because there are tiny air bubbles within the bags and tea leaves.

god made them to amen

ummm...they sink after they fill up with water

They do ?? Not the ones Ive seen. The only explanation is too much powder and not enough leaf

its just very light

cause they're flamboyant
