Differences between refrigerator ice and purchased ice?!

Question:

Differences between refrigerator ice and purchased ice?

I have two problems with "refrigerator ice".
o It's milky looking and not clear.
o It reacts with Coke to create an overflow of "fizz". This releases the carbonation and makes the drink "flat" tasting.
Why does this happen? Can refrigerator ice makers be adjusted to make them more like purchased ice?

(I prefer purchased ice in a bag because it is usually clear -- and doesn't cause Coke to overfizz.)

When I say "refrigerator ice", I'm talking about the standard half-moon automatic icemaker ice cubes. There are no chemicals or residue. Any time you get ice from anyone's icemaker, the cubes look the same -- milky-white. But when you buy ice in a bag, the cubes are clear. What's the difference? Can you get clear ice in an automatic refrigerator? Why does bag ice work better with Coke?

Probably the water you are using to make the ice has too much air in it, or, you might find the trays themselves to be useless as there may be some sort of film of soap or chemical on them. You could try new trays, but first try letting the water sit until it goes flat before you pour it into the trays. Boiling it would make it go flatter quicker.

Technically there should be no difference. In a refrigerator ice can pick up flavors of food in the frig. The difference is the time taken to freeze it. Commercially ice is frozen much faster. I got a bag once that had a big pece of metal in it. It was like a shower head and the ice company was embarrased getting it back. It came off their spigot. They gave me a few free things at the grocery. Do you make tray ice or does your frig make it automatically? That may be a difference.

dont know

you have waayyyy to much time on your hands to be worrying about which type of ice to use!

Buy a commercial Ice machine. You hook it to the hose and plug it in. Sorry to bust you bubble but that is how its is done anywhere. Ice trays freeze outside-in and the stress makes it foggy. the Ice machine freezes it inside-out, (like icicles on a house roof.) Ice is the most profitable item at any store. Therefore, after you get the machine get some bags and a sign and make the money.
