What are some of the key aspects of the Pepsi and Coca Cola rivalry?!

Question:

What are some of the key aspects of the Pepsi and Coca Cola rivalry?

Answers:
It seems to me that Coca-Cola was way ahead until some over paid Idiot ( CEO) came up with idea of New Coke, then it seems that Pepsi gained a lot of ground . Of course, when you think of either one yu have to consider all of the other flavors they compete with.

Advertising, branding, PR and the like. The difference between the two is nominal, and a very small percentage of the population can tell the difference between the two.

In many countries, this rivalry doesn't exist (usually, Coca-Cola or Fanta enjoy a vast majority of sales). But I think both companies have benefitted from a marketing plan that isolates the two as though they are solely in competition with each other.

Coke sells more off the grocery store shelves because people prefer its taste.

But pepsi has expanded into other markets, including restaurants and foods, which add revenue. They also allow them to have places that sell nothing but pepsi. Pepsi plays in certain markets Coke doesn't. They have powerade (which sucks) but is pretty successful, while coke's version is just awful.

Pepsi still trails Coke in revenue though.

Pepsi tastes better.

Coke has the better commercials -- cute bear. I'd like to teach the world to sing, in perfect harmony.......

Coca-Cola and Pepsi are the two largest soft drink companies on the planet for the last century. They compete head-to-head initially in the "cola" category, then "diet cola" in the 1980s, and "lemon-lime", "energy drink", "flavor wars", "bottled water", "read-to-drink teas and coffees", and "lifestyle beverages", and more to come.

They also compete for the "official drink provider" or "title sponsor" for various professional sports organizations, e.g. NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, MLS, IOC, FIFA; commerical organizations and businesses, such as airlines, amusement parks, restaurant chains, hospitality chains, etc.

They compete for the most memorable jingle, tagline, commercial, advertisement, promotion, tie-ins, etc. They also fight for the celebrity spokespersons worldwide.

They compete to obtain the best financial performance, annual revenue, earnings, return on equity; US, worldwide, regional; by product, volume, growth, etc.

They compete by organically creating their own brands and products as well as acquiring competing or niche players.

They compete for both the mindshare as well as the consumer marketshare through all of the above.

Oh did I mention they also compete for the better tasting cola?
