Related to tea is how popular coffee is in the United States. Tea was from the British Tea company and because of taxes, taxation without representation, and the colonies wanting to break free, tea was considered treason, so our friends from South America upped their supplies of coffee to keep the caffeine flowing. The thesis could be something like: 'due to the British rule, tea was unpopular in the states and the America sought other forms of drinks, which in turn required Britain to find other sources of income.' I'm not an expert, but I thought you might find it interesting. GL.
