Did coca-cola...?!

Question:

Did coca-cola...?

really have cocaine in it?

Answers:
The original recipe for coca-cola had real cocaine in it.

yes

The original formula did, hence the 'coca' in 'coca-cola': coca is the plant that cocaine is derived from. However, the cocaine was removed in 1906, I believe.

yes it did and it was mostly sold over in china where they were all addicted to drugs anyways. but when drugs werent illegal they did this so that people would keep buying it. talk about a change in ethics

Yes, up untill cocaine was made illegal in the 1930's

The original formula of Coca-Cola and the earlier revisions of the formula contained trace amounts of cocaine because one of its key ingredients was coca leaves. For most of the 20th century and now in the 21st century, the revised formula has been using decocainized cola leaves.

You could read more about this in " For God, Country & Coca-Cola: The Definitive History of the Great American Soft Drink and the Company that Makes It" by Mark Pendergrast.

It's a well written and researched book on the history of the World's #1 soft drink and the company that makes it.
