What can you do to stay awake when you should be asleep?
I am a shuttle driver for the railroad. I am on call for a 24 hour period but it seems they call me to take a crew somewhere when it is time for sleeping. No matter how much rest I get before hand I am still tired. I have tried coffee, capuccino, Red Bull, and this stuff called 5 hour energy. None of those things seem to help. I even got this capuccino tonight that was double caffeine but no luck. I am not a caffeine drinker so this is not a case of you have already had too much caffeine. my normal drinks are water and white tea. Please help! thanks.

Go to your doctor, he may prescribe provigil. It's like speed but suppossed to be nonaddictive and when you want to go to sleep it won't keep you up for hours. It would be perfectly legal once prescribed. Perhaps if you can just invest in an ipod so you can listen to something up beat.
take drugs
I think you should be asleep before you have to be awake...
Do you get enough sleep before going to work?
pry your eyelids open? actually just try thinking of fun exciting stuff.
snort a line...... now seriously take a power nap before you head out. or take a sick day and let your body recover.
Listen up homie, ill tell u
get juiced homie, hit the snow, not the horse, or the j, or some angel dust wil do u good, Ull be more alive than jumping beans serio.
If u dont want drugs my good man i suggest quit your 24hr job.

Sorry , sleep deprivation has been found to be one of the leading causes of serious injury accidents ,
As bad as drunk driving .
If you cannot get sleep between calls so that you are adequately rested ,
You need to apply for another position , in the interest of everyone's safety .
You might try exercising before you leave somewhere.......a nice brisk walk or even a workout tape.
Also, have you tried napping in the afternoons? You can try to re-train your sleep schedule.
When you drive, also keep the heater off and roll down the window. Also, munching will keep you awake (something healthy though like carrots or celery).
Be sure they aren't violating any "overexertion" rules though! Good luck.
Try eating sunflower seeds. As long as you stay busy doing something you will stay awake. Energy drinks will only work for a short period of time.
Not used to eating sunflower seeds, even better. Master the art of throwing a handful into your mouth, seperating one with your tongue, splitting it with your teeth, and spitting out the shells. I used this technique when doing night convoys throughout Iraq, and it worked like a charm.
I used to work overnight....I have found that if you work in the middle of the night you can stay awake for hours if you drink lots of iced tea w/lemon and keep moving. If you sit too long you sleep. Goodluck
Try green tea might help :D
green tea dont harm body as half as much as coffee and other heavy caffine drinks.
it refreshes and fight wrinkle form starting early
but only green tea please. there are other teas that work opposite and help putting you to sleep. i dont know much about those teas i only know green tea doesn't.

If none of the caffeinated beverages work for you, you could try taking a cold shower, go out and jog a little, do some physical activity. Good luck!
