Answers:
They do taste different, and you have to ask by law!

I used to work in a bar, and if you didn't say it you could get done and fined as you are giving the customer somethign they have not asked for, sounds silly, buts it like going to a corner shop and asking for chololate, they would say (if it was behind the counter), galaxy, dairy milk, bournville, etc.

I can't stand diet coke, love diet pepsi, but I can't stand Pepsi, but I love Coke!

There is a definate difference!

I hate that ! sometimes I do say 'like I care' but they do taste different, I prefer pepsi :)

No. Definitely a difference. Try them side by side.

No they don't taste the same. My husband gets furious when this happens in restaurants. He will only drink diet Coke. I think, by law, they have to tell you that it's not Coke, but Pepsi instead. I'm not positive about that, but they always tell him when they only have Pepsi.

Pepsi and Coke are able to completely corner a market by making contracts with big fast food chains. Mcdonalds is with Coke, which also makes dasani and many other drinks.
Pepsi does this, too. So, when you go to your favorite chain, if they only have pepsi, it won't change. Coke is cheaper by the can anyway. ;)

Coke and Pepsi taste different.

They really mean they only have that brand of cola and not the other.

I think that they taste different but it is a slight one.

Also, even though they might taste similar, they are different companies. Some restaurants contract with each brand and may not sell both Pepsi and Coke.

Pepsi is far better than Coke... but I can't drink caffeine anymore so I go for Sprite.

Coke and Pepsi taste different not much but Pepsi is a lot sweeter to me.

When i ask for coke and they give me pepsi i tell them to take it back as pepsi is not what i oredered....they shouldn't give you pepsi just cause it is like coke. It's like ordering chiken in gravy and getting cat food in gravy.

They are not the same. And, unfortunately, the fast food chains go with one or another (not with both). And they should inform you that they do not have what you are asking.

its all to do with passing off , if they sever you coke and you aksed for pepsi they can be done and fined for passing off and it a lot of money

Did you know that this is illegal if they do not do this??
If you asked for coke, and the server serves you pepsi, that have mis-sold your goods.
I used to work for a fast food restaurant, and all staff just tell you its pepsi, or coke if you ask for the wrong item.

Restaurants usually have contracts with certain soft drink companies (or are own by said company, Taco Bell, for instance, is a subsidiary of Yum! Brands whose parent company is PepsiCo) and therefore have to tell you which product they serve, they want the product recognition. Most places I have been to will ask "Is ------ OK?" depending on which one I order. I have recently started ordering "diet cola" hoping the generic nature of the phrase will ameliorate the problem but so far it hasn't.

Actually, Coke and Pepsi do taste different and there are people who will only drink one or the other, so you can imagine they might be upset if they order a Pepsi and get a Coke. Oh, the horror of it! I like both and generally don't care which one is served.

well in my opinion coke and Pepsi taste totally different. I prefer coke over Pepsi, i prefer Pepsi if it is flat. That is why they correct you, also there are nutritional differences as well as different ingredients. Also some people boycott Pepsi cause they don't want to put in one nation under god on their can cause they don't want to offend people. So some people don't want to offend them by giving them their money that says in god we trust

Yes. The reason is that they cannot substitute a food or beverage order without your permission.

I recall reading that in the early 20th century, the Coca-Cola Company has sued owners and operators of soda fountains and restaurants that substitued and served Pepsi to customers who asked for Coke.

No they don't taste the same. And they better not serve me Pepsi.

no i believe they taste different and i usually check out the drink selection before i order due to the fact that i dont care for coke or pepsi that much and would rather have mellow yellow mt dew or dr pepper

nope coke is better! pepsi is too weak....

i think pepsi tastes more American. i know this sounds extremely dumb but we all know its true.

it depends on what type of agreement the fast food place
has it comes down to what you see is what you get.
