Why do Indians drink diet instead of regular coke?!

Question:

Why do Indians drink diet instead of regular coke?

I have been the secretary for a rich Indian family for about a year now. They all drink diet coke. Even their friends and business partners. Is there some kind of culture thing against regular coke? I have nothing against it since I too prefer diet, I am more curious but don't want to be rude and ask them directly. Thanks!

Answers:
I can't imagine this is a cultural thing. It is probably more of a preference for taste. Why not just ask them politely that if they prefer Diet Coke over Regular Coke? There's no harm in asking to satisfy your curiosity.

I am also curious now that you asked about it. Please update us with their response.

Thanks!

oooook

It's definitely not an Indian thing, if you mean South Asians. Plenty of Indians I know drink regular Coke. Maybe the people in that family are all diabetic?

I'm not Indian, but I drink Diet Coke.
You probably are not Indian and you drink Diet Coke.
There are several million people in the world who drink nothing but Diet Coke.
WHY????

They like it! All my relatives down south, Louisana, Texas etc drink Diet Coke. While I live in the Northwest and drink Diet Pepsi.

maybe they just like it better than reg. coke

Hello:

I am Native American Indian (Cherokee),and my family and I have ALWAYS preferred Pepsi products over Coca Cola products! Some people in my family really like the Diet Pepsi,or the Diet Mountain Dew,but I can't stand the taste of anything diet,so I drink REGULAR Pepsi products. As far as a cultural thing,I really feel that it really depends on what foods or beverages that you have been exposed to all of your life, that makes for certain food or beverage preferences when you become an adult!

I don't know why the Indian Family prefers Diet Coke, but maybe they just like the taste better and it is less sweeter than regular Coca Cola. As a Native American Woman myself, I have always told people,"The only ignorant questions, are the questions that you are afraid to ask,and seek the answers to!" I hope that this has been helpful and I hope you will find the answer that you are looking for!! ;-)
