Pop, soda, soda pop?!

Question:

Pop, soda, soda pop?

Where in the United States is each of these words used?

Answers:
I've lived on the east coast, in Virginia, where "pop" and "soda pop" were the common terms.

I lived in New York where no one knew what I was asking for unless I asked for a "soda."

No one, that I know of, on the west coast, where I have also lived, has ever used pop in reference to a beverage.

In sub-saharan Africa, everything is Coke, Fanta (orange soda from Coca Cola), Sprite or Pepsi. No one calls it either soda nor pop.

In Taiwan "cola" is accepted most because it sounds like the Chinese equivalent "kuh Luh."

My best estimation is that "pop" is a holdover in the southern states from back in the days of poodle skirts and soda pop fountains. Most of the rest of the states somehow managed to avoid this interesting term, at least in regards to carbonated "fountain" drinks.

I live in Missouri and call it pop.

In West Virginia they say "pop".

we use it here in Illinios

New York doesn't use pop,
my unlce did not understand what i was asking for when i said i would like a "pop"

i live in NJ and they say soda

In VA we call it coke. It's all coke. Even pepsi is coke.

I say soda but most people in the Hoosier state call it pop.

Here in Michigan people call it pop. My family in Wisconsin and my friend in Missouri call it soda.

I live in Ohio and we all call it pop. My friend Meghan is from Texas, Maryland and Alaska (Dad in the service) and she has always called it soda.

Another Missourian.... it's SODA!
My sister starting calling it POP when she moved to Seattle. Now she's back and it's sounds so "out of place" when she says Pop.

I'm from the West Coast and grew up saying soda, I now live in the Midwest and people here says pop and it drives me nuts! I'm not sure about soda pop...maybe the Northeast although my aunt who lives there says pop also. Have you ever been to Texas? All soda there is called Coke, then they ask what flavor. That's pretty dang annoying also since Coke is Coke, Sprite is Sprite and Dr. Pepper is Dr. Pepper...everything is not Coke.

I live in Arizona and i call it "soda"

I live in Northeast PA and we call it soda. Some people in NY and MI call it pop.

I live in ohio and we use both pop and soda.

wisconsin - i call it soda but other people call it pop

Soda in California. Soda Pop or Pop in the Mid-West.

In Georgia, it's all coke

you can call it any thing you want ,call it soda or pop or both it,s all up to you.

Down south we call it Coke.
Whether it is, coca-cola or pepsi or whatnot.
