Is there a difference between a melange (vienna) and a cappuccino?!

Question:

Is there a difference between a melange (vienna) and a cappuccino?

i know that back home in australia the cappuccino has chocolate sprinkled on it, but apart from superficialities, is there any difference between the cappuccino and the melange?

to me, they both seem like coffee with milk, or milchkaffe, with emphasis on froth? is this the case?

Answers:
They're close cousins. The classic Wiener Mélange differs from cappucino in that the strength of the coffee brew underpinning it is less pronounced, and instead of cocoa powder, candied coffee beans are used to garnish the frothed milky topping.

In practice, ordering in a Kaffeehaus in Vienna, you will more often than not find that the Mélange will be served to you with whipped cream instead, leaving the frothed milk and cocoa powder to the Cappucino proper, and thus, in effect, creating more of a concrete difference between the two.

Melange, a Viennese specialty coffee, similar to Cappuccino.

Franziskaner. Melange coffee with cocoa or chocolate powder on the whipped cream.

Cappuccino is an Italian coffee-based drink prepared with espresso, hot milk, and milk foam. A cappuccino differs from a caffè latte which is mostly milk with only a little foam, and a small part of espresso. A cappuccino is traditionally served in a ceramic cup, which has far better heat retention characteristics than glass or paper. The foam on top of the cappuccino acts as an insulator and helps retain the heat of the liquid, allowing it to stay hotter longer.

Ok, now you know.

Vienna roast is not as heady and strong as espesso used for cappuccino, also some will use cinnimon on the whipped cream and it is not sweetened, plus it is like cappuccino, generally serve only up until 11 am, not a drink sold much after the breakfast and morning coffee break.
