There is so much food coloring in Kool Aid that when I was a teenager we used it to dye our hair funny colors ( non sweetened version obviously).

Agree with the answers above; it seems in recent years "Kool Aid" is mentioned as something people who are crazy/silly drink. It didn't have this meaning before a few years ago, but now you'll hear things like "oh he's drinking the Kool Aid" which means he has silly thoughts or he is believing what the government or authority is saying.
