Why does COKE still have "Classic" on the can ?!

Question:

Why does COKE still have "Classic" on the can ?

Answers:
It all comes down to marketing.

One of the most important things a company can do is build a strong brand image. Coca-Cola has, to great success, built their brand image to be the "Classic" soft drink. This is more of an indirect reason, and the "Classic" brand image was only created in response to consumer backlash to the big blunder of the 1980's.

Pepsi in the 1980's began gaining large portions of Coca-Cola's share of the market, with a sweeter and smoother cola flavored beverage. In response to this, Coke changed their formula in the soft drink to take what Pepsi had created and make it better. In blind taste tests, New Coke actually beat both Old Coke (now called "Coca-Cola Classic") and Pepsi. The problem was that Coke didn't look into the history, cultural heritage and what a consumer expects when they use the product (basically brand image). In essence, the taste of Coke was secondary in consumers' minds to it's symbolic meaning and the strong emotional ties of consumers.

When sales went sour, Coke eventually took the hint and switched back to the original recipe, and labeled it "Coca-Cola Classic" to match what the consumer desired in his soft drink.

Interestingly, the recipe for Coca-Cola syrup is one of the most closely guarded secrets in the free world. There is only one plant that creates it (and ships the syrup to bottling companies that basically just add water), and few of the workers are actually aware of the types or ratios of ingredients. Secret projects done by the government (rocket, bomb or any other technological designs) slip out every once in a while, but the recipe for Coca-Cola syrup has never leaked in the century that the company has endured.

It's a trademark.

Because they're secretly planning to bring back "New Coke" soon...at least, that's what I hope, because I thought New Coke was about 100 times better than Classic Coke.

Why is it still called coke when it no longer has cocaine in it?

because it is the original flavor!

It's Coke, it IS classic.

because they havnt changed anything on itor in the recipie

It is the intent of the company to say it is classic, for all nostalgic purposes

There have been so many versions of Coke over the years that labeling it Classic lets you know it's the original version

Because they changed recipes a couple times, but it didn`t fly, so they brought back the "old" recipe and it stuck

Because it is a classic...

I'm just guessing I don't really know for sure..

They made New Coke which was rejected outright by consumers and so they brought back the old formula under the name Coke Classic.

They've kept that name because culturally speaking, beginning in the 90s anything associated with the concept of "classic" or "retro" became hip in present day America.

As such, they kept the name to keep sales strong, and unfortunately, it seems to have worked. (I say 'unfortunately' because although I LOVE coke, they are a monstrous company that condones the murder of workers in their South American plants when it benefits business)

so that ppl will know its the same as what they had when they were a kid, not some new weird kind(i.e. Coke w/ Lemon)
