Espresso = sleepy time!?!

Question:

Espresso = sleepy time!?

I had an very important sales meeting for the company I work for
and I didnt really sleep the night before so I went to the coffee shop to have a coffee with Espresso shots
because according to everyone in the world this gives you energy and keeps you from falling alseep ...
well I waited and waited and nothing happened ...
I never got energy ... and I only got sleepier!

I thought Coffee was supposed to keep you awake ... and it never did that for me!
when I got home from work I slept all through the night and I still didnt feel rested even after 13 hours of sleep...

What is wrong with me? Is this normal? Does this happen to you when you drink coffee?

coffee should give you energy for a bit, but it dies down really quickly. just like if you had a chocolate bar, you'd have energy for a second and then get extremely tired.

i'd say just try to sleep more, and not rely on the coffee..although it tastes so good!

sorry i dont know what it is

Caffeine never usually does much for me. Especially when I've not had much sleep the night before, I could have a cup of coffee and an hour later have a nap and sleep soundly. Sometimes it makes me jittery, but almost never gives me actual energy.

I've had a cold lately and when I take pseudoephedrine that seems to give me energy.

The highest content of caffeine, ounce for ounce, is actually not a dark roast coffee or something concentrated like espresso, but rather a light to medium roast coffee.

Just be careful. Caffeine can act as a diuretic, and the last thing you want in the middle of a huge meeting is to have to run of to the restroom every 10 minutes!!!

Maybe they gave you decaf.
