Why did all my soda go flat?!

Question:

Why did all my soda go flat?

Yesterday I lost power for 5 hours and as a result my refridgerator was not running. I never opened the fridge during this time because I didn't want any of the cooler air to escape. However an odd development was that every ounce of soda I had in the fridge went flat. I had a 5 bottles of a 6 pack of 16oz bottles of diet coke that had never been opened and that I had purchased 24 hours earlier and every single one of them is flat. Does anyone know why this would happen?

Answers:
The ability of water to hold carbon dioxide varies by temperature. It is less when the water is warmer. The less CO2 you have in the water, the less fizzy your soda will be.

I think that when they packaged they didn't pump or didn't pump enough nitrogen or air in to them. Either that or you cokes might be expired before you bought it.You can go to a coco cola place and demand a refund if you really like coke. =D

The cans should not of gone flay so take them back and get a refund

It is unlikely that temperature change caused the Diet Coke to go flat. I would think that the Diet Coke were too old and/or were not properly carbonated when bottled.

Since you still have the store receipt, you may want to bring them back to the store for replacement.

Alternatively, I would contact the Coca-Cola Company for a refund. Copy down the manufacturing date code on the neck of the bottle and then call 1-800-GET-COKE and request for a replacement or refund. The Coca-Cola Company should send you a coupon good for a multi-pack Coca-Cola family product.

Good luck!

it definitely was the change in temperature. temperature affects the solubility of the co2 in the beverage. it becomes less soluble at higher temperatures causing the drink to lose its "fizz". it also has to do with gas laws but the solubility is the easiest to understand.
